China tells US: Stop preaching on human rights

China has told the US to stop preaching on human rights, after the state department's annual report on the issue criticised China.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said the US should concentrate on its own rights issues and stop interfering.
Chinese authorities have launched a major crackdown on dissent recently.
Unveiling the report, US officials expressed particular concern over the recent arrest of the artist Ai Weiwei, an outspoken critic of the government.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also highlighted reports of other intellectuals and activists being "arbitrarily detained" in recent weeks.
Mr Hong said China was happy to talk about rights "on the basis of equality and mutual respect", but added that Beijing "resolutely opposes" meddling in other country's affairs.
"We advise the US side to reflect on its own human rights issues and not to position itself as a preacher of human rights," he said.
"[The US should] stop using the issue of human rights reports to interfere in other countries' internal affairs."
The state department's annual report criticising China, followed swiftly by a tough riposte from Beijing, is now a well-established diplomatic ritual.
But analysts say this year's tit-for-tat exchange has been sharpened by Beijing's crackdown on dissent.
The US report accused Beijing of stepping up restrictions on lawyers, activists, bloggers and journalists.
The Communist rulers were also accused of tightening controls on civil society and stepping up efforts to control the press and internet access.

Miley Cyrus may sue over sex doll!

"The teen star is said to be so upset by the Finally Mylie love doll that she is planning to sue the company responsible.

But the blow-up effigy — which boasts "3 achey love holes" — has flown off the shelves.

Kevin Johnson of Pipedream Products, the company behind the doll, said: "We are completely sold out already — it's been on the market for less than 48 hours."

The wayward Disney star, 18, is not the first celebrity to be recreated as a sex toy.

Some have been removed from sale "for legal reasons".

But despite rumours of Miley's pending lawsuit, the company is yet to remove the doll from the market.

Johnson said: "We haven't received a cease and desist letter from her attorneys yet, but I have seen those rumours circling online.

"That probably means it will happen soon enough."

The Finally Miley Love Doll has been selling on Amazon for $27.49 (£17) in the US."

Monster Energy Drinks lawsuit: Man finds dead rat in can after drinking it

"tFederal Way, Wash.-- A Federal Way man has filed a lawsuit against the maker of Monster Energy Drinks. He claims he found a dead mouse at the bottom of his can, and he has the lab work to prove it.

"Anytime anyone talks about monster, I just get that sick feeling in my stomach," says Vitaliy Sulzhik.
It happened March 20, 2010. Sulzhik remembers it like it was yesterday. He went into the Fred Meyer in Des Moines, and bought himself a Monster Energy Drink. When he finished drinking it, he didn't realize another monster would be at the bottom.
"I put it down and I felt it was still heavy. So I backwashed it and all this debris went into my mouth," says the 19 year old. "Then I looked in the can and I saw the tip of the tail and I vomited everywhere."
It was a dead mouse inside the can. His attorney sent the can to MDE Inc., a forensic and engineering laboratory in Seattle, which cut open the can. They conducted a series of forensic tests on behalf of his client, and Monster's insurance company.
X-rays and autopsies showed the mouse didn't suffer any trauma, like from a mouse trap, nor was it killed using poison. In other words, there were no signs the mouse was killed and then forced through the opening.

That is just, nasty.  Eeurgh.

Touchdown: Guy gets in three point stance, yells "hike!", jumps out of a window and dies

"Joseph Kimutis knelt down in a three-point football stance, yelled "hike" and propelled himself through a glass window at Petersen Events Center on Wednesday night, a witness told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Kimutis, 19, was attending a concert with his father. He fell four floors to his death.

"We have a lot of unanswered questions," said Pittsburgh police Lt. Daniel Herrmann, according to the newspaper.

Although toxicology reports are still pending, Herrmann added that police did not believe drugs or foul play were involved, according to WTAE Pittsburgh.

The fall occurred around 9 p.m. and was estimated between 50 and 75 feet.

Authorities rushed Kimutis to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian, where he died shortly after midnight.

Police said Kimutis was at the arena with his father for a performance by Furthur, the current incarnation of the Grateful Dead."

One of the stories you shouldn't laugh at, and when you do you feel bad for doing so.  Your thoughts?

Cat trying to set world record!

"She hit the headlines with a thunderous purr that was compared to a lawn mower, hair dryer or even a Boeing 747 coming in to land - and now Smokey has made a Guinness world record attempt to see if she is the loudest purring domestic cat on the planet.

Owner Ruth Adams, from Pitsford, Northampton, enlisted the help of the town's college to get specialist sound equipment to record the attempt and organise some official witnesses.

The attempt, at their home, saw the 12-year-old cat's purr reach 73 decibels - 16 times louder than the average cat. Smokey's efforts have been put forward to Guinness and the Adams family is waiting to find out if she scoops the title of world record purrer."

SO CUTE!

Irish banks need extra 24bn euros to survive

The Republic of Ireland's banks need an extra 24bn euros (£21.2bn) to survive the financial crisis.
The figure follows a stress test on the Irish banking system by a group of independent experts and the country's central bank.
Four lenders were tested - Allied Irish Banks, Bank of Ireland, Educational Building Society (EBS) and the Irish Life & Permanent.
Allied Irish Banks needs most money, and will have to raise 13.5bn euros.
Bank of Ireland needs 5.2bn euros, EBS 1.5bn euros, and Irish Life 4bn euros.
The total amount poured into the Irish banks since the financial crisis will now be close to 70bn euros.
Professor Patrick Honohan, governor of the central bank, said: "The new requirements are needed to restore market confidence, and ensure banks have enough capital to meet even the markets' darkest estimates."
Nasty news for the rest of the EU.

Microsoft Vs. Google

"Microsoft's first ever competition complaint is not just a wonderfully ironic turn of events, it's a measure of how the balance of power on the web has shifted. A decade ago control of the desktop and what applications lived on it was still all important - now it's the control of search which delivers huge power and billions of advertising dollars to Google."
